Lisa Yaro Biography

Early Life

Lisa Yaro was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and at the age of 4, she moved with her family to Houston, Texas, where she grew up in a very musical home. With both parents being musicians, Lisa learned how to play instruments at an early age which eventually led her to write songs.

Growing up, she knew that music was her calling and wanted to act ever since watching “The Cosby Show.”

After graduating from high school (St. Agnes Academy), Yaro received a scholarship for Violin Performance at Florida State University under Dr Kenneth Slowik – Professor of Violin, Chamber Music & Orchestral Studies Department Head; School of Music. She then went on to get a B.A. in Music Education.

She immediately moved to Los Angeles, where she started working as a music teacher while recording & performing with various artists nationally and internationally.

As soon as she finished school, Yaro signed a publishing deal with Pulse Recording under the tutelage of super-producer David Foster (Whitney Houston, Michael Buble, Josh Groban, etc.).

Through that opportunity, she was able to work with Grammy Nominated Producers, including D.J. Camper (Kanye West – “Love Lockdown”), Andrew Lane (Beyoncé – Dance for you), and Chucky Thompson (The Notorious B.I.G. – Mo Money, Mo Problems).

In 2009, Yaro started working alongside Grammy-Winning Producer/Engineer Robert Hadley and performed under “Lisa YARO.”

In 2015 Lisa Yaro was a contestant on Season 11 of American Idol, in which she was cut after Hollywood Week. Thereafter, in 2017 Lisa Yaro wrote, produced, and released her first single, “Make You Proud,” a contemporary inspirational song that pays homage to the late great Whitney Houston.

Global fans received the song very well, moved by its universal message of upliftment. Lisa then produced this record, but it is one of the very few songs sung in an African language, Yoruba.
Yaro also executive produced her first Feature Film, “Honey” (2017), slated for release in 2018. The film stars Amanda Seales & Kym Whitley, both very active members of Hollywood’s Black Community – Actors, Comedians & Activists.
